Mission Statement:
The Hoboken Historical Museum advances the understanding and exploration of Hoboken history, culture, and architecture. The Museum educates by collecting, preserving, and interpreting artifacts and oral histories, both historic and contemporary that reflects the life of the city. The Museum documents Hoboken’s physical and cultural heritage, which has local, regional, and national significance. The Museum collaborates with other organizations with similar interests, while maintaining permanent space(s) suitable to the Museum’s mission. Through this, the Museum serves the people of the city of Hoboken and all those who enjoy its history and culture.
Volunteer:
As a nonprofit supported primarily by local fund raising, the Hoboken Historical Museum depends on a small army of volunteers to manage our fund-raising events. These events help fund the entertaining and educational exhibits and events that advance the community’s appreciation of Hoboken’s colorful history.
Volunteering is a fun way to get to know your neighbors and connect with the city’s cultural life. No prior experience is needed; the only requirement is a friendly attitude. Most assignments are for a couple of hours, and involve setting up for an event, helping register participants, accompanying Garden Tour groups or greeting House Tour visitors, serving tomatoes or selling merchandise.
HOLIDAY CRAFTS FAIRS: Volunteers needed
The Hoboken Historical Museum is hosting its own annual Holiday Crafts Fair at 1301 Hudson St. from noon to 5 pm for three weekends: Dec. 5 – 6, 12 – 13 and 19 – 20. We will also have a booth selling our wares at the City Hall Holiday Crafts Fair, Dec. 12 – 13 and 19 – 20, between 11 am and 5 pm.
We need volunteers to help staff both events — it’s a fun way to help your favorite local museum in these tough financial times. If you can work a two-hour shift (11 am – 1 pm, 1 – 3 pm, 3 – 5 pm), send an email to volunteer@hobokenmuseum.org. Indicate whether you prefer working uptown or downtown, and the day and time of day you’re available. Or call the Museum at 201-656-2240.
