The Hoboken Shelter’s mission is to be a community partnership that transforms lives by providing meals for the hungry, shelter for the homeless, & services to support people to become housed.

We shelter 50 people nightly, serve over 200 meals daily, and provide such support services as food, shelter, case management, counseling, job and life skills training, creative arts workshops, and emergency homelessness prevention grants.

Dinner Seven Evenings a Week:

Dinner is served every evening at 7:30pm. We feed approximately 80 to 100 people each night. There are several ways to help with this evening meal:

1. Come and serve 6:00pm to 8:15pm. (The entrance is down a wheelchair accessible ramp on 3rd Street.)

2. Donate food for 100 guests for dinner. (You can come & cook it with your friends or deliver it for us to serve.)

3. Donate money for the cost of dinner nightly ($300.00). (You can drop-off or mail a check to JACLYN’s attn).

4. Donate frozen meats such as hams or turkeys or canned tuna fish.

If you are looking to come and serve dinner as an individual, you’re welcome to stop by any evening from 6pm-8:15pm. You don’t have to call ahead or anything & the Kitchen Manager will help you with everything. If you’re looking to coordinate a group (4+ people) to come and serve dinner, please call JACLYN to schedule it. She has a calendar of the volunteer groups that can be reviewed together.

Lunch on Fridays:

We serve lunch at 1:30pm on Fridays & provide clothes & showers to our unsheltered homeless. We need help sorting clothes for distribution, serving lunch, and cleaning-up. 2 to 4 volunteers are welcome to come and help from 11:00am to 3:00pm, with the need mostly being from 12:30pm-2:30pm. This is a great opportunity for corporate groups to build collegial relationships for co-workers while they give back to the community.

Make, Wrap, & Deliver Shelter Residents’ Daily Sandwiches:

50 brown-bagged lunches are provided to our shelter residents every day. We always appreciate the delivery of sandwiches that groups thankfully take the time to make, wrap, & deliver. Some companies do this during their staff meetings as a morale-building activity; some fraternities & sororities do this as a large group activity; & some parents & kids do this as a family activity.

Collection of Supplies:

We use the following supplies on a daily basis: 250 cups; 150 plates; 500 napkins; 10 rolls of toilet paper; 1/2 of a roll of paper towels; & 1/2 box of tissues. We need your help to coordinate a collection of supplies for our soup kitchen, especially the following:

Coffee, Tea, Milk, Sugar, Cereal, Rice, Instant Potatoes, Marinara Sauce, Frozen Meat & Tuna Fish

Hot/Cold Cups, Laundry Detergent, Toilet Paper, Napkins, Plastic Utensils, Garbage Bags (60 Gallons), Postage Stamps

Soap, Deodorant, Shampoo, Socks, Underpants, Toothbrushes, Toothpaste, Razors

The Shelter is open to receive donations Mondays-Fridays, 9am-3pm, and every night of the week, 5pm-9pm.
